It is with deepest sorrow that the Officers and Members of the Lawrence Township Fire Co #1 announce the passing of founding and life member Bruce W. Evans.
Bruce was an instrumental part of the men who chartered the Lawrence Township Fire Co #1 in 1956. Through the years, Bruce served in several different roles including Fire Chief and President. Bruce, a 66-year member, was the last founding member of the company. Along with the fire department, Bruce was a true community servant, having served with several different organizations within the Clearfield area as well as the Pennsylvania National Guard during the Vietnam Era.
Although Bruce was no longer able to run calls, there weren’t many days that you wouldn’t see his smiling face stopping in to tell a quick story or relax with a cold soda in the lunchroom. This past year, we were able to capture a photo of him holding the original plaque created to honor the founding members of our fire dept. It was said by his son Dwight that he had a love for the fire department.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley. Along with his wife, two sons- Dwight Evans and Daughter Hailey of Curwensville, Doug Evans of Pittston, and a sister Peg Keating of Sellersville Pa.
Our condolences go out to the family of Bruce. “Gone from our sight; but never from our hearts.”
