On May 3rd around 13:35hrs, Company 5 was alerted for a tractor trailer fire on Interstate 80 near mile marker 111 east bound in Pine Township. Prior to engine 5 responding, communications was tanking more reports and updated the address to the 109 mile marker. Upon arrival of Assistant 5, he confirmed a semi trailer On fire hauling apples. The truck was disconnected by the driver prior to our arrival. Crews from engine 5 deployed the front bumper line and a cross lay for extinguishment.
Once crews went into to mop up operations, communications advised of a 2nd tractor trailer fire near the 115 mile marker East bound. Squad and Assistant 5 responded and also requested Engine 1 and Engine-Tanker 6 added to the box. Upon arrival of Assistant 5, he confirmed another working fire only this time it was the semi truck on fire which was still connected to the trailer. Squad 5 pulled a line off and began knocking down the fire which prevented extension to the trailer. Crews operated for about 2 hours for both incidents before returning to service.
