On April 30th around 20:20hrs, Company 5 was alerted for a tractor trailer accident with unknown injuries in the are of interstate 80 west bound near the 120.4 mile marker in Lawrence township. Upon arrival of Ems they confirmed the driver was out of the vehicle not complaining of any injuries, however the address was updated to the 121 mile marker which is Station 16’s first due area. Communications alerted Company 16 to respond however company 5 was already arriving on scene at that time. Chief 5 was the first arriving fire unit and confirmed they had an active fuel leak from the semi’s fuel tanks. Upon arrival of the rescue they established fluid control and containment. Engine and Squad 5 also responded and was acting as blocking vehicles for the accident while personnel assisted with traffic control with company 16 until towing services arrived on scene. Crews operated for approximately 2 hours until being released by Chief 16.
As company 5 was returning to the firehouse, the Rescue was alerted as automatic aid to Company 44’s area for a reported odor of gas inside a residence. Rescue 5 arrived along with Engine 44 and investigated a faulty gas stove that was giving off the odor. The appliance was secured and the home was ventilated.
